Inspired: Design- All About Pink AND 1st Giveaway of 2012!

Capiz Shell Chandelier with Pink Rosettes

Inspired: Design 'In The Pink'

If you haven't noticed, pink is everywhere this year.  In fact I think it started last year and shows no signs of stopping. You'll see it fashion, food, interiors, crafts, art. You name it, and there is pink.

Now, I will be upfront with you. I had an aversion to pink for awhile, because the 'girls' room in our house growing up was..........you guessed it, pink. It's not that I hated pink, I just got a little sick of it (well, until I was of the age to wear Love's Baby soft, but that's another post all together).

Back to pink. It's here. Every shade in the spectrum and I must confess, call-me-Sally-Field, I really, really like it.  There is a pink for everyone from blush to neon and everything in between, all over pink to just a touch- I bet if you're like me and just give it a chance, you might find you like (or love) it afterall.

Rainy Day Flea Market

It's been raining here all morning. Nobody is complaining. It's much needed.  Our lawns are crunchy.  Thought it would be a good day for some 'flea market and antique' browsing, without dodging the rain drops.

Do you love the beautiful pale yellow color of the looking glass above as much as me? So pretty.

Oh the treasures you can find on etsy, like this little sampler box with a present in each compartment.

I just love the delicate lines and the simplicity of this pale blue bowl.

The classic lines of a shirt dress. It never goes out of style.

I have a love of teapots. My favorite thing about these is that they look like they've been the stars in many a tea party in a child's room.

If I had to pick a favorite out of these pretty little dishes, I'd have to go with the poppy, but it would be a hard decision. They're all lovely.

How about vintage linens? These dish towels are so reminiscent of a time gone by, yet completely current at the same time.

This pink sugar bowl is so detailed and sweet, with a picture of an open window and a birdcage beyond. It's the newest listing in our own etsy shop, Bates Mercantile Co.

You have to love treasure hunting right from your computer.  As you can see, I am drawn to a variety of vintage things. What I really find interesting about vintage pieces is that it seems they all have a story to tell. Are you drawn to particular things when treasure hunting at flea markets and antique stores? Do tell.

Hey- The sun is out! So much for the rain.

Happy Monday. Hope it's a good one in your part of the world.

Flowers for You

Floral Comeback

On my stop at the antique store the other day when I found the botanical print for Bates Mercantile Co., I also came away with something for myself. A silk floral pillowcase.  So sweet.  I've always loved floral prints. You know, the ones that used to be splashed all over the pages of Victoria Magazine before it's demise (and recent return). I was an avid reader and I still have stacks of old issues in my attic. If Victoria is making a comeback, maybe that means floral is too as it seems to have fallen out of favor with many 'in the know'. Whether it is or isn't 'in style', it's happily making an appearance in my home.

To me, a floral like this is classic. It can be mixed with all types of styles- bohemian, elegant, country, or Paris apartment chic. It never goes out of style, though others may disagree. It's romantic. Does romance ever go out of style?

Here's some pretty floral items I found on etsy. Just in time for the new floral revolution!

I found these utterly 80s Lord & Taylor shoes in TheGreedySeagull's shop. Love 'em. Not sure I could pull them off, but they're 'all that and more' when it comes to floral.

Just look at this bowl from DownEastAttic (quick shout out to my neighbor to the north....Hello Portland!).  Oh-so-pretty and just love the handles.

And the things I could do with this vintage queen sheet (pillow case, duvet cover, curtains, a throw, chair cover.......the list goes on) from thisOtherthing.

And if you don't think you can pull of the shoes either (though I think they would even look pretty just sitting on the floor next to a vanity), how about these earrings from isheshop.

And here's a little number from Bates Mercantile Co.  So sweet, I can hardly stand it.

So, what do you think about chintz and floral trends in general? Are they an on and off again trend, or are the classic and here to stay?

More flowers tomorrow when I show the 'after' pictures of my east garden, complete with my now blooming Rose of Sharon.

For now, I leave you with last night's Sunset Meadows sky taken by the G-man himself.  I was busy in the pool. Hey, somebody has to do it.

A lovely soft glow.

Enjoy your Friday. What plans do you have for the weekend? I'm just hoping we are able to get my office shelves up. That alone will make me happy.

Have a great day in your corner of the world.
