Friday: Mussels & Musings

After Irene

Since Irene swept through here, it's been nothing but beautiful.  I'm talking 'WOW, what a gorgeous week' type of beautiful. The sunsets have matched.  My cupboard, not so much. It was not beautiful. It was empty.

Finally got my butt to the store, and came home with some of these for dinner.

I had read a recipe yesterday and had to do it. HAD TO. White wine steamed mussels topped with crumbled Gorgonzola and panko bread crumbs. Mussels are so easy and so divine.  These were no exception. After steaming them until they opened (just a few minutes), I sprinkled Gorgonzola and panko bread crumbs over them, put them under the broiler for about a minute to melt the cheese a bit and voila. Dinner. Not sure I can express just how good all the juice was. That's what the bread was for. You gotta have bread with mussels.

This morning, the dog was having a hard time waking up.  Cracks me up the way Lucan can sleep in this position with his head on the arm of the futon.

But he does.

Here's a little something that makes me happy. Hope it makes your Friday happy.

Sadly, Iz passed away. Very talented man. His spirit is still here though and it soars, especially through his music.

Sunset Meadows

As I said, it's been a beautiful week. The sunsets have been too.

Last night's..............

........didn't want to.........

......give up the ghost.

Not a bad show to watch, while eating the aforementioned mussels.

Happy Friday. Here's hoping you have one fantastic weekend. It's labor day weekend here, the 'end' to our summer (not really, but we like to have a reason to cookout!).  Tomorrow I'm making a big 'ole batch of chili and we're having a campfire. The neighborhoodlums are sure to be enjoying it with us.  Sunday, we're off to......OK, we're walking across the street to Tom and Joanie's labor day BBQ.  Got any plans?

  3. Jana, I had to look up nordic walking! Hadn't heard of it. Of course, once I saw a picture of it I thought "oh yeah, I've seen that". Looks fun and like a good work out. Get out and enjoy the fresh air!

Courtney Jo, honestly, and think the ease of preparation is part of the mussels appeal. Well, that and the fact that they're just so darn good. My Dad used to love him and then developed and horrible allergy to them. He even tried them again having loved them so much. No go. They just don't love him anymore. I'd be so bummed out.
