What Inspires You Wednesday: Back To Garden, so to speak

Flowers, Weeds & Wellies

I wish I could find more time to be in my flower gardens. Even though weeding is a ton of work that is always ongoing, there is something meditative about it. The quiet of the garden, taking notice of the small things, time to think or just be present.

I've dubbed my corner garden Wild Thing. I am currently working in the front bed, which can see a bit of here- it's just beyond the weeds that have taken over my walkway (if you were to turn around an look the other way, you'd know instantly why I call it wild thing. It's a jungle. I kid you not). I'm not sure why, but in the front bed, I can grow grass like a golf course landscaper. In my lawn? Not a hope. The flower garden, absolutely!  So, I just peck away at the grass and the weeds.  15 minutes here and there if I take a break from my desk and walk around the yard with the hound. An hour there, if I get a chance at the end of the day. Hours upon hours if I take a day on the weekend. See what I mean about never done?

I'm OK with that though. It's just enjoyable to be digging in the dirt at this time of year.

Today, the garden is inspiring me.  The resilience of the flowers after a hard winter. The resilience of weeds, no matter what. Noticing the little things, like the small toad that keeps hopping about this flower bed every time I'm in it weeding.  The transplanted peonies that don't look any worse for wear. Getting my hands dirty. The flowers that are ready to pop any day. The colors. The smell. It's all inspiring.

Add to my time in the garden, the fact that I came across these wellies that are calling my name. So much so that I just had to paint them because, they're all about 'what's to come' in the garden.

"Pam"

"Yes, wellies?"

"I know."

What's inspiring you today?

CREATE Challenge no.1- LAST DAY!

OK, the time is nigh.

This is it.

Hopefully those who said they wanted to participate are reading today, because tomorrow I will be posting my results and others, for CREATE challenge no. 1. Even if it's just lil' ol' me.

If you're in, shoot me a pic (QUICK) of your project so I can include it, okee dokee?

Right then.  I'm off to take care of the many tasks at hand which include logo revisions and printing, packaging and shipping. Another busy day.

In The Garden

Trees Bloom

We've been working out in one of my flower gardens. It's kind of a secret garden in the corner, that sometimes people who have been here a gazillion times don't even know it's there. I'm not sure why that is.  When we moved here, it was chock full of junky fill like chunks of pavement and concrete. I'm not sure why that was either.

We made two big burms in the back that go right up to the stone wall, a bed in the middle where the flowering tree is, and two beds in front. There's a little path that meanders through.

I call it wild thing. You can guess why.  Nah, never mind, I'll tell you. This is no 'manicured' garden.  Things can get a little gnarly in there, like at the moment it seems to be overrun with some crazy wild rose and another vine. Oh yeah, and weeds. And, the mutant black eyed Susan my friend Pearl gave me. Least I forget leaves.

The mystery tree that we planted in the middle of the garden is in full bloom. I'm happy to report it has an off shoot that is in full bloom too.

The lilacs are in full bloom too. Not so 10 minutes east at my parent's. Guess that cool coastal air has got them behind a bit.  I however, will be cutting enough bouquets to fill just about everyone of my vases and fill the house with that heavenly sent.

Now, back to the mystery tree. That's it on the right. On the left is my flowering crab apple. There's been lots of guesses on our facebook page as to what exactly the tree on the right is. Some think it too is a flowering crab apple.  Unless it's a completely different variety, I'm still shaking my head in wonder.  Leaves are a different color, flowers a different color, and it also blooms at a different time with mystery tree blooming first.

Anybody else got a guess?  It's flowers are light pink that turn the palest pink and white when opened. It doesn't fruit per se, but does get a small little berry come fall. It's a hard little berry.

Wish I knew more but it was a tree that Gman got from a job site where it was going to be thrown away. So we have no info other than, it sure is pretty and it's still going strong.

Sunset Meadows

The other night the clouds turned a pretty soft pink.

Last night the sky glowed.

While we were out in the garden this morning, before the day kicked into full gear, lo and behold, neighborhoodlum Tom came over in the tractor with a bucket load of wood for the campfire. You gotta love genrous neighbors with tractors.

The temp is a bit chilly here today, but the sun is out so we'll take it.

My college roommate is in Pennsylvania and itwas snowing there yesterday. We sure don't need any of that.

What's happening in your corner of the world? Do you have a garden that you've been spending time in? Are you planting a container garden? Or do you skip the green thumb test altogether?

Have a great Tuesday.

What Inspires You Wednesday

Apple Blossom Time

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. Quite patiently I might add. For what? The apple blossoms to bloom. My blogging/etsy pal Cari-Jane from Hybrid Handmade said a couple weeks ago that they were blooming where she is in Yorkshire, England and that it would be 'soon enough' that they were doing the same here. She was right.

I've been checking them and checking them.........OK, I lied about the patiently thing. However, I have good news.

Today. Viola.

Did you see the bee? Busy. Busy.

So lovely.

Nature, Spring and apple blossoms in particular are inspiring me today.

What's inspiring you? I'd love it if you shared what's inspiring you today in a comment below. And feel free to hop on over to our facebook page share your inspiration there too.

Right now it's a lovely Spring day. It's supposed to change to rain later. I won't complain though because we need it. Haven't been able to have a campfire because it's been so dry. Plus I know everything will really pop after a little watering from nature.

Have a great day. It's a great day to have.
