Take A Walk With Me

I Know I Said Chowder Recipe.....but....

I have no officially got whatever the G-man has had for the last week and it sucks. So no recipe today.  I felt a twinge in my throat yesterday but nothing much. However, we stopped over to my parent's last night as my Aunt Joan and Uncle Bobby were swinging back through on their way home, and when I left- it hit me.

Chills, body aches and general feeling of lousiness. Hopefully I didn't give it to anyone else.

Woke up this morning and feels like a Mack Truck hit me. So I'll be going back to beddie-by. Summer bugs...what's with that?

Before I do, enjoy this little walk around the yard with me.

Gotta say from far away, this flower garden just looks like one big mess.

However, it really looks more like this....

The hummingbirds and butterflies love the bee balm.

While I floated about the pool on Sunday, Garrett was still  packing things up.

Please ingnore the undies on the line.

Some of my day lilies have popped. Love the ruffles on this one.

Pow! The colors are this one are gorgeous!

The Pamela Jean, which my Dad made us, was flying high.  The bluebirds like to light there and look down on me in the pool, but not on Sunday I'm afraid.

Queen Anne's Lace....so delicate and pretty.  I also noticed that it's kind of like nature's own fractal. Each little branch mimics the entire flower. Very cool.

I heard the butterfly say.....what will it be today, the bee balm or the milkweed. Decisions, decisions.

Lucan's decision wasn't nearly as tough.  Futon for lounging and a nap.

Have a great day! It's sunny and beautiful day. At least I have a nice view from my bed.

Off I go!

Nature Notes

Close To Home

This weekend we finally got to have a campfire out back. We were so happy about the Friday night campfire, we had another one Saturday night. You see, we've been waiting and waiting after a very dry Winter and a pretty darn dry Spring (as far as Spring goes).  Then when it seemed the rain gods had showered on us and we'd be set to have a campfire, the winds came in and stopped that idea in its tracks. It's been a long time coming, especially for Gar and I, who like nothing better than to sit out back around the campfire.

Saturday night as we enjoyed the campfire on a beautiful night, the SuperMoon was rising.  The shots I was able to get don't capture the huge size of the Moon, but it sure had a pretty glow to it peeking through the pines and oak.

Sunday we were blessed with another day with sunshine. There were butterflies all over the place.  They were going crazy over the lilacs. Really crazy.  Garrett, neighborhoodlum Gerry and I decided that there may have been a little intoxication happening from the lilac-fest because after they finished their share of lilac nectar, they kept running into the house. It was quite a site.

You may think this photograph is upside down, but it was in fact the butterfly that was upside down. And yes, it is a butterfly, not a moth.

I've come to learn after a little internet search that this is the Eastern Comma.  They are part of a group of butterflies commonly known as "anglewings," because they have sharply angled wings.  Something you can't see here is that when the Easter Comma is at rest and its wings are folded up, the underside looks like a dead leaf or bark. Pretty neat camoflage.

Hopefully they've recovered from the lilac nectar.

Sunset Meadows

Sunday evening brought a lovely sunset and end to the weekend. The sunset I love, the end of another weekend not-so-much.

The good news is, it's Tuesday already................hope yours is going wonderfully in your corner of the world. I'm here at my desk, checking things off the list and that always makes for a good day.

Ciao for now,
