Take A Walk With Us: Good Friday

No Need For Words

Freeform Friday

I think Pavarotti had a voice that was the gift of God. Especially appropriate for this Easter weekend.  Enjoy. Click here if you're reading via email.

I'm don't consider myself an especially religious person, per se. I'm more spirtual than religious.  I did go to a Catholic college and I do pray, but churches speak more to me when they are empty, than when they are full.  I feel closest to God when I am enjoying the beauty of nature and contemplating how blessed I am.

Wishing you a wonderful Easter and Passover in the company of family and friends.

Ciao for now,

  1. We are by no means religious...my husband is totally anti religion ( root of all evil type stuff), and yet I like that religion has given us some great giving traditions and beautiful architecture. My best church experience was in Germany - a choir of monks singing a concert in Latin, German, French and Italian, gregorian style too. Oh my goodness, hurt bursting stuff. I like to think of it less of a closer to god experience than to Mother Earth and humanity. I think religion is a missed opportunity- there is much good in the communing of people to give thanks for what the works provides them...I just don't like all the bullshit that they pile in on top of that...and the wars/abuses that come with it.

Australia is a far LESS religious country than the USA- I am surprised to meet religious people..I know a handful!

Like you I prefer churches empty- take in the wonder of human creation (the architecture) and feel closest to...mother earth/creation/wonder when in nature. But sometimes I wonder if that is just chemistry- our bodies responding to the pull of clean air, water and the elements from which we are made.

Interesting stuff to ponder, and a man dying on a cross makes it no less interesting. I like to think that if there is a god, he'd prefer us to use our brains and challenge ourselves, then blindly follow- otherwise why give us brains in the first place.

    1. well said my dear.

Although there are some 'rituals' of mass that I appreciate, there is a lot that makes me think it feels a bit 'cultish' in some ways. that's by in no means dissing mass for those that it works for. i think if something makes you feel closer to what is important and count your blessings and the wonders that are around us, than it's probably a good thing. as far as jesus dying on the cross, i think even if you just take the story of itself, there is much to learn. hopefully to be kinder, gentler, peaceful beings and to not judge others so easily.

    1. Yes Deb!This barn is on Winnicutt and it's right across the street from our little white house. We're just to the east on opposite side of the road (just past the house with the fire pond).
