Can we dish?

Plate Love

I've got plates on my mind this week, because I was taking photos of the newest item in our shop. I'm tempted to keep them.

Ironstone sandwich plates with the most wonderful depiction of workers haying a field. I just love 'em.

How about this one......isn't this pattern great?

Retro yet modern.

Lookie here at this little rustic gem.

I've featured some of potter Ericka O'Rourke's handi-work before. It's all earthy and lovely.

MarciG's flower bowls are awesome too. This white poppy bowl is almost too pretty to use for dipping sauce.

Wow. Talk about color. Just reading the description on this piece and the process used to produce this plate, makes me want it.

Marge Goes Yardsale-in'

That's Marge. She's my mom. Hi Mom.........I know you're reading this.

Marge went to the annual Lion's yard sale two weeks ago. I missed it because we had visitors. But I didn't really miss it, because Marge gave me a box and a market bag filled with stuff she picked up for me. I don't think she paid more than $3 for everything she got. Now that's a yard sale I'm not missing next year!

I had fun unwrapping everything (yes, Marge had wrapped everything in paper and bags so nothing would break). One surprise after the next.

I've already used this pretty Pyrex platter for our first tomato slices from the garden. Love the slate trim with white leaves and flowers.

How sweet is this vintage platter?

Just love the poppies.

Marge scored an even bigger, white china platter too.

She wasn't leaving it there after she saw that it was Noritake.

And how about these sweet Asian bowls?

Pretty, right?

They also happen to be bone china. See how they are translucent when you hold them up to the light? Dead giveaway.

A brand new white cherub, holding a bird.........perfect for my garden.

Three nice scarves.

I've been wearing the light blue one with hearts all week, to hold my hair back 'a la' I Love Lucy. Too cute.

I give Marge permission to go yardsale-in' anytime. Have you had any great yard sale finds lately? Share. I'd love to know.

Tomorrow, you'll get to see the bowl that was in the box. It's holding the cheese I made the other night. Yup, you read it right. I made cheese and will share the recipe tomorrow (thanks to Marie at LeVoyageCreatif).

Rainy Day Flea Market

It's been raining here all morning. Nobody is complaining. It's much needed. Our lawns are crunchy. Thought it would be a good day for some 'flea market and antique' browsing, without dodging the rain drops.

Do you love the beautiful pale yellow color of the looking glass above as much as me? So pretty.

Oh the treasures you can find on etsy, like this little sampler box with a present in each compartment.

I just love the delicate lines and the simplicity of this pale blue bowl.

The classic lines of a shirt dress. It never goes out of style.

I have a love of teapots. My favorite thing about these is that they look like they've been the stars in many a tea party in a child's room.

If I had to pick a favorite out of these pretty little dishes, I'd have to go with the poppy, but it would be a hard decision. They're all lovely.

How about vintage linens? These dish towels are so reminiscent of a time gone by, yet completely current at the same time.

This pink sugar bowl is so detailed and sweet, with a picture of an open window and a birdcage beyond. It's the newest listing in our own etsy shop, Bates Mercantile Co.

You have to love treasure hunting right from your computer. As you can see, I am drawn to a variety of vintage things. What I really find interesting about vintage pieces is that it seems they all have a story to tell. Are you drawn to particular things when treasure hunting at flea markets and antique stores? Do tell.
